This year commemorates the 60 anniversary of Jamaica’s

independence, our Diamond Jubilee. As we celebrate this
significant milestone, there are many historic moments
which will be etched in our memories. One that we are
excited about is the second edition release of this legacy
book, Pieces of Jamaica , which, like a diamond, will live on

as part of our story.
As we look through this treasure trove of photographs, we
are reminded of the many places and faces that highlight
our rich cultural heritage, which we continue to showcase to
the world. This represents the best aspects of Jamaica. From
the rolling hills to the crystal waters, our historic monuments,
our unique reggae music, gastronomic delights and the
natural beauty of our people — these are all but a part of this
paradise gem.

As Consul General of Jamaica for the southern region of the

David I. Muir, Sean Henry and Calibe Thompson must
be commended for their creativity and artistic ability,

Jamaica 60 is, unquestionably, a significant milestone in
Jamaica’s independence story, as it offers Jamaicans at
home and abroad an opportunity to reflect on the joys and
triumphs of the past six decades while considering how
we might continue to celebrate the vibrancy of our people,
improve our lot and retain our relevance on the global stage.
How appropriate then, in this contemplative and celebratory
moment, that we should have this commemorative
collection of photographic art from David I. Muir and Sean
Henry. These two fine artists’ bodies of work dramatically
capture the passion and intellect of our people and the
beauty of our landscape in unstaged ways which renew our
perspective of Jamaica and Jamaican culture.
David and Sean now collaborate in this 2022 edition of Pieces
of Jamaica to offer to the world a window into the heart, the

spirit, the joy of the Jamaican people. I am excited to see how,
through their evocative artistic expression, this second volume
will capture the essence of Jamaica’s beauty, humour, faith,
confidence, power and generosity. In these, God has blessed
Jamaica at 60 abundantly, and this production promises to
be a delightful treasure trove of revelatory glimpses into the
wonder and hope of Jamaica and Jamaicans.
